In order to make the method to find out different land. There are different ideas such as simple software GeoTIFF, NITF, JPEG 2000, ECW (file format), MrSID, HDF, and NetCDF to detect land in the Urgenche. After some investigation regarding to these software we understood these software are more or less professional and we have to pay for registration fee as well as software. So we decide to search for another method.
In the other method we decide to print the map and measure different land by hand and scale. We used the Escali L-Series digital scales are highly accurate easy to use digital scales with some of the industry's best features.
To know the accurate percentage of the land and water, we used the map for each city. We print the colorful printing and the cut the land and water for each city. We used Google map, in the printing version of the Google map it is not possible to differentiate green area and building. We weight water and land with the digital balance. The results are as follows. Out of 7 cities, we only evaluated 3 cities such as Kuopio, Basel and Thessaloniki. For bigger cities particularly for Xi'an and Suzhou the Google map data is not reliable.
In order to find actual land use and boundary in Urgenche, We used Google map. For Kuopio, we define specific land boundary as it shows in the above map.
The first table is just estimation. The second table is done with balance.
Obs | City | Green area | Urben area | Water area | Other area |
1 | Kuopio | 70% | 10% | 20% | |
2 | Stuttgart | 40% | 40% | 10% | 10% |
3 | Basel | 5% | 80% | 10% | 5% |
4 | Rotterdam | 15% | 55% | 20% | 10% |
5 | Thessaloniki | 5% | 80% | 15% | |
6 | Xi'an | 10% | 3% | 87% | |
7 | Suzhou | 5% | 35% | 15% | 45% |
Obs | City | wight of land area | wight of water area | % land | % water |
1 | Kuopio | 0,9 | 0,9 | 50 | 50 |
2 | Basel | 0,03 | 0,52 | 5,454545455 | 94,54545455 |
3 | Thessaloniki | 0,58 | 1,28 | 31,1827957 | 68,8172043 |
The new idea and so far the best is to use Google map with grid paper.
There is some fact which you have to take in to consideration such as the scale and documentation of the map. First of all we decided to use the attached map inside of Opasnet. We use Google map as well as karttapaikka website.
Obs | City | Green area | Building area | Water area |
1 | Kuopio | 10% | 72% | 18% |
2 | Kuopio | 25% | 75% | |
