Purpose of environmental health assessment Environmental health assessment is a discipline of study on how biological, chemical and physical factors in the environment affect human health. The characterization of the risk (nature and magnitude of the rick) are investigated for the benefit of human health. The last two stages of risk assessment are risk management and risk communication based on the findings from the assessment. The assessment can be done by epidemiological studies or by the use of experimental methods. The main purpose of environmental health assessment is to provide policy makers valuable information to enable them have in-depth knowledge on the environmental factor(s) in question so that they take the best out of the other available options during policy making for the benefit of human health.
Shared understanding
Shared understanding is when all the participants involved in a policing making process understand the decision option under consideration, know the consequences of such decision, why that very decision is considered out of the other option. Shared understanding can be developed through common experience and not necessarily means all the participants agree to the considered decision. It is a collective or collaborative procedure and help change knowledge from individual perspective to group or joint perspective.
Co-creation skills
Co-creation skills is the integration of the skills, expertise, knowledge, etc. of different parties or participants (actors) in a decision making process to ensure that a valued mutual outcome is achieved. It involves collaboration and the actors must have passion/willingness for what they are doing. Co-creation skills help find solution to situation or issues that no participant/actor can solve alone.

Homework 3
- 1. Can trialogue and open participation be considered as a form of shared understanding?
- Dialogue is when two people talk with each other and exchange information. Trialogue is an idea that this process can be enhanced by collaboratively creating a written description of that information. Open participation means that anyone is allowed to participate in this process at any time and raise any relevant points to this written description. Shared understanding is a situation when people understand each other (even if they disagree). So, trialogue and open participation are practices to reach shared undestanding, but they are not forms of it.
- 2. To what extent is it safe to save personal information on opasnet? How can you restrict others from seeing some content of your work on opasnet?
- Opasnet is a place for information with societal relevance. Usually, personal information is not relevant except maybe for showing expertise of the participants. The rule of thumb is that everything in Opasnet is visible to others, and if you don't want to show something to others, you should not put it to Opasnet. We have a password-protected area Heande for project work, but its use is discouraged because people tend to hide relevant information and thus cause harm to the project.
