Scope
Does the option affect consumer information and protection?[1]
Definition
Public availability of information on product/service characteristics and usage: the amount and quality of information provided by means of labels on packaging of goods, of technical documentation and of notices to users of goods and services. These may signal the degree of "civilisation" of a market, and help protect consumers from asymmetric information problems. The minimum required information to be provided can be regulated by law, creating the conditions for increasing participation of consumers to the functioning of market mechanisms.[1]

Indicators:
Some potentially highly relevant consumer protection indicators, such as contaminant contents in food and feed (Dioxins and PCBs in food and feed, Mercury in fish and shellfish products, pesticide residues in food and feed) are not availbale through Eurostat due to problems in indicator defintion and data quality.
