Description
City-Delta is a model inter-comparison exercise of different atmospheric chemistry-transport (CTM) dispersion models which is open for all interested air quality modelling groups in Europe. The model comparison is launched by the JRC-IES in collaboration with EMEP, IIASA and EUROTRAC. It serves to support the modelling activities and cost-effectiveness analysis in the CAFE programme.
The model inter-comparison is conducted for eight European cities: Berlin, Copenhagen, Katowice, London, Marseille, Milan, Paris and Prague. It focuses on ambient levels of particulate matter and ozone in urban areas and addresses health-relevant matrices of exposure (e.g. long-term concentrations) to fine and coarse particles and ozone.[1]
The objectives of the inter-comparison are:
- Assessment of the performance of available models and comparison with observational data
- Assistance of air-quality managers in quantifying the contribution of regional versus local sources and in identifying and assessing the most effective emission controls
- Provision of quantitative information in relation to legal obligations.
