Scope

Fish oil intake in Beneris describes exposures of omega-3 fatty acids due to fish consumption in the Beneris population.

Definition

Fish oil intake is represented as a continuous variable and is indexed by variable age. It applies to Finnish pregnant women (this represents prenatal exposure to fish oils from fish), to the two last age categories (18-55yr, 55yr+) and to indicators such as intelligence quotient (IQ) in children and the risk of CVD mortality in adults.

Data 2

Data 2 represents intake of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) by Finnish pregnant women due to fish consumption. The DHA intakes from sea and freshwater species are estimated separately. The DHA intake from a given fish species is calculated as a product of the DHA concentration in this species and intake of this species by pregnant women divided by the body weight of pregnant women.

Data 3

Data 3 provides intake of omega-3 fatty acids (docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) + eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)) by Finnish adults due to fish consumption. Age groups of interest are 18-55yr and 55yr+. Intakes from sea and freshwater species are estimated separately.

Narrative description

Exposure is calculated as a product of concentration data and fish consumption data. This is further divided by bodyweight to report exposure in relation to kg of bodyweight.

Data 2

General formula:

DHA_Concentration_species(i)*Intake_species(i)/BW

Data 3

Formula used:

(DHA_Concentration_species(i)+EPA_Concentration_species(i))*Daily_consumption_species(i)/BW
