Purpose

To determine the effects of long-term PM2.5 exposure on cardiovascular mortality and hospitalizations.

Methods

Study Population

FINRISK subjects are randomly sampled adults from the population register in Eastern and Western Finland.

Questionnaires

The surveys are carried out every 5 years. Survey is focused on chronic disease risk factors. For CLAIH, data collected in 1997 and 2002 will be used for the Helsinki/Vantaa and Turku/Liomaa areas. Home addresses and moving history data will also be needed for this cohort.

Exposures

Five year average outdoor PM2.5 concentrations pre-survey years at home addresses.

Outcomes

Cardiovascular related deaths and hospitalizations.
