Impact Calculation Tool ICT (previously know as The Impact Calculation tool TICT) is a tool for calculating Years of Life Lost (YLL) and Years of Life lived with a Disease (YLD). By combining these two, we acquire a burden of disease estimate (BoD). This result can be used e.g. for comparing different diseases caused by various exposures. The key word is commensurable measures.

The tool utilizes life table approach, i.e age specific information on diseases in a given population. ICT tool is programmed on Analytica Monte-Carlo software. It has a user-friendly interface, no special need for coding experience is needed. However, user must provide various information, including:

  • Cause of death due to exposure
  • Endpoints of morbidity
  • Population data with 5-year age intervals
  • Baseline mortality
  • Baseline morbidity
  • Exposure measure
  • Mortality exposure-response function
  • Morbidity exposure-response function
  • Duration of disease
  • Severity weights

Another way for calculating is with already existing data on burden of disease. This can be inputted to the tool with attributable fractions.
