Spatial location is a dimension describing possible locations in the Universe (almost always implicitly assuming only the locations at or near the surface of the Earth).

There are several possible ways to use sub-dimensions depending on the definition of a reference point:

• Geographical location: based on a standard reference point used in geography, e.g. longitude/latitude. This has three sub-sub-dimensions:
  • Longitude: The distance in degrees from the Prime meridian.
  • Latitude: The distance in degrees from the equator.
  • Height.
• Predefined areas: A discrete dimension for geographical location that is based on predefined areas, such as countries or postal code areas. For a complete list of countries, see List of countries.
• Location from a reference point: Spatial dimension based on a reference point defined in the assessment, e.g. location of the emission.
