Scope

Health impact is a dimension describing possible impacts of a pollutant (chemical, physical, or biological agent) on the human. This includes both physiological or pathological impacts and impacts on welfare and well-being.

Definition

Data

  • ICD-10: An international classification of diseases. This is a discrete dimension, and the individual locations are hierarchically structured. In principle, the classification is exhaustive and covers all possible diseases at some level of precision.
  • Severity: mortality, morbidity.
  • Also annoyance and other welfare impacts should be classified in some way. Some of them are indeed included in ICD-10. But does this classification fulfil the needs of environmental health assessments?
