gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), a method for analysing concentrations of, e.g., PCDD/Fs, PCBs, and other organic compounds in a sample. The method has two phases: first, separation based on differential movement of compounds in hot flowing gas in a long quarz capillary; second, detection based on the molecular mass of the compounds. The method is very sensitive and it can detect amounts as low as 0.5 - 100 pg, depending on the resolution of mass spectrometer and the matrix.
