Groups in Opasnet describe different ways of organising activities in Opasnet. There are different kinds of groups with different objectives, tasks, and nomination procedures. The most important groups are called teams, flocks, squads, reserves, swarms, and tribes.

Team	Työryhmä	A group of people nominated or selected by one or more organisations and involved in the same activity. The group has a leader.	Nominated, no self-selected members. Leader may assign tasks using Todo template.
Squad	Iskuryhmä	An organised (possibly self-organised) group that has a leader and an explicit objective. Members are not nominated by any organisation.	Participants add their names to the participant list of the assessment of interest. Leader may assign tasks using Todo template.
Swarm	Kuhina, lauma	A very active self-organised group that forms around an acute topic. Does not have a leader but some parts of it may be organised by one or more squads.	A swarm has a task list page (possibly the talk page of an assessment) where participants can sign up for tasks. People can also add their names to the participant list of an assessment of interest.
Flock	Parvi	Unorganised group of people interested in a topic and following it. The group is aware of the situation with the topic. The group includes also those who actively participate in the topic.	Participants mark the page of the topic as watched. They can follow the progress from their watchlists.
Reserve, muster	Vahvuus, reservi, valmiusjoukko	A group of people who are willing to be involved in activities related to an explicit topic if need be. The group does not have a leader but there must be a way to contact the group when there is a need to activate it.	A reserve for a specific topic makes an own page. The page contains information about tasks and activities related to the topic. People interested in the topic can mark the page as watched and sign up for tasks.
Tribe	Heimo	A group of people belonging to reserves of different topics and sharing the sense of belonging to the society of reserves.	A tribe can make an own page in the Opasnet namespace. The page may contain group news and group activities.
