Typically, services are pieces of work that are performed to create or improve a variable or a method in an assessment, notably in Opasnet. If services are performed according to open assessment, the results of the service can be freely used by anyone. The actual information may locate in Opasnet, may be automatically drawn from an external source when requested, or may exist elsewhere such that only links to the service product are provided in Opasnet.
A variable may consist of several pieces of information, each accessed through a different service. In this case, none of the services directly applies as the result of the variable. Some kind of synthesis should be made, but this may be laborious. If the value of information of the variable is not very high, the assessor may simply assume that one of the services produces the truth, i.e. he/she can make a scenario of this and neglect other pieces of information.
