Tumor promotion As a cancer-promoting agent, does TCDD act as a tumor initiator or a tumor promoter? Studied by injecting the rat's livers with a maximum initiation of carcinogens and tracking the effects of TCDD on liver cancer incidence for 6 months.

Crossbreeding Han/Wistar rats are resistant to TCDD due to two mutations, which the Long-Evans rat strain does not have. One of the mutations is in the AH receptor, and the other in an unknown B gene. These alleles were crossbred into two new A and B rat strains. In addition, a C strain was bred with no changed alleles.

Insulin and glucose TCDD causes increased sensitivity to insulin and hypoglycemia in rats. Gluconeogenesis is also reduced. Does this explain the wasting syndrome?
