'''Profile of congeners''' (spectrum of congeners, congener profile): the variety of different congeners of PCB or PCDD/F in a particular sample. The proportion of each congener in the total PCB or PCDD/F may change along the food chain, because different congeners are differently metabolised and taken up by organisms, and therefore the spectrum in human beings (see ''[[TEq]]'') is very different from that of the original source, e.g. a commercial PCB mixture. | |||

Profile of congeners (spectrum of congeners, congener profile): the variety of different congeners of PCB or PCDD/F in a particular sample. The proportion of each congener in the total PCB or PCDD/F may change along the food chain, because different congeners are differently metabolised and taken up by organisms, and therefore the spectrum in human beings (see TEq) is very different from that of the original source, e.g. a commercial PCB mixture.
